MAX -TEK SELECTED FOR CENTRIFUGAL PUMP
AND COMPRESSOR IMPELLER PRODUCTION
Milldale, CT April 12, 2007... MAX -TEK®, LLC announces new orders for its STC 400 Superabrasive Turning Center from two leading pump and compressor manufacturer’s to solve centrifugal pump and compressor impellers applications. “In the case of the compressor application, the STC 400 is providing greater productivity over conventional turning while pump manufacturer cited numberous machine design advantages as well as improved productivity over competitor machines. The STC 400 is an ideal platform for interrupted cut machining for centrifugal pump and compressor impellers,” comments Vincent Girard, sales
and marketing manger.
STC 400 Superabrasive Turning Center is designed for machining stainless steel, Hastelloy®, or cast iron centrifugal pump and compressor impellers using plated CBN grinding wheels. The STC 400 allows for machining the back, face, OD and vane profile in one setup. This capability eliminates the inherent difficulties in turning interrupted cuts and the need for wax support of the impeller vanes prior to machining to greatly increase throughput. The machine utilizes a precision machined Meehanite cast iron base for high rigidity and superior vibration dampening. The STC 400 has X/Z/C axes and features a 9,000 RPM, 53 HP belt driven spindle with Fanuc Alpha 40 motor and drive, a 10” 3-jaw hydraulic chuck with 3500 RPM, 11 HP work spindle motor, and a Fanuc CNC control with available based touch screen operator panel with override switches and function selector. Other features include: hydraulic tailstock, X & Z linear guide rails, X axis Heidenhain scale feedback, oil/air lubrication system, custom coolant halo and high pressure nozzle assembly and fire suppression system.
MAX -TEK LLC was founded by Ed Elie in December 2004, who previously started Edgetek Industries in 1988, and pioneered the first domestically produced superabrasive grinding systems. MAX TEK LLC designs and markets superabrasive grinding systems to suit aerospace, power generation, automotive, compressor and medical applications. The company is headquartered in Milldale, Connecticut, in a facility that houses an experienced staff that offers a direct knowledge of superabrasive applications and machinery that includes machine and systems design, application engineering and full service support.
