William F. Belle is a consultant for grinding as a machining process. Based upon work experience and academic activities he is highly qualitified for
* Grinding of steels
Extensive experience with 52100 steel and other easy-to-grind ferrous metals. He developed modeling software to predict workpiece burn on 52100 steel.
* Automated systems
Experiences in material handling equipment linked to grinding
machines. material handling equipment was controlled by the machine plc and integrated with de-magnetiziers and post-process gauage systems.
* Centerless Grinding
With PhD thesis on centerless grinding, Bell is fully familiar with plunge and through feed centerless grinding modes. Expertise includes setup parameters for optimal performance, modeling software,part sizes a micro to 14 inch ODs. Experience with diaphragm compensated hydrostatic bearings and grinding wheel speeds up to 24,000 sfpm.
* Machine Tool Design
Education and experiences with machine tools used in high volume markets. Experiences with NSF funded projects at the the Grinding Research Center at U of Connecticut-Storrs and as well as at Bryant Corporation designing and building OD grinders capable of wheel speeds up to 50,000 sfpm.
* Process Engineering
Using experience in the bearing industry, Bell integrated grinding with stamping operations, assembly, quality and broaching and forging and quality managment programs such as TQM, TPM, Kaizens, 5S, Lean, and OPEX.
* Superabrasives Applications.
Developed grinding processes using vitrified bonded CBN wheels and oil-based and water based grinding fluids. Worked with GE Superabrasives to develop grain and bond characteristics to improved G-ratios.
